It is a privilege for me to belong to the Methodological Quality Group. Since "methodology" is part of my areas of interest, I am in the right place. Let's keep on keeping on, please.

I am working on a meta-analysis of risk association. We are including only case-control studies and we are using the NOS (Newcastle-Ottawa scale) to rate the quality of studies. However, we are having some difficulty interpreting the exposure questions. For 'ascertainment of exposure', how is secure record different from medical record only? Aren't all medical records secure?

Also, how does one award a star for the 3rd exposure question (non-response rate) when you are measuring  a particular hormone in blood, e.g.: insulin? How does non-response even come into play here?

Thanks in advance.
