You might also want to check out a new online tool at The analyses are still not as powerful as some of the STATA models but preparing and analyzing the data is much easier. In addition, you can download a csv file from the site that can be used in STATA and other packages if the current analytic techniques do not suit your needs.

I think that meta package in R is really good for routine metaanalysis ; it does take some time to learn how to use R but the graphs are very good quality ; funnel plots also look good
