Justin C. Brown replied to Justin C. Brown's discussion Meta-Analysis with R in the group Software for Meta-Analysis
"I'd say R-commander isn't a bad bet to grasp the basics of importing, manipulating, and doing basic statistical analysis:  See: R-Commander.  It definitely helped me scale the (near vertical) ladder."

Blair T. Johnson replied to Justin C. Brown's discussion Meta-Analysis with R in the group Software for Meta-Analysis
"My group has been giving the metafor package a try and finding it quite useful. The main drawback seems to be the steep learning curve for using R itself. I wonder: Does anyone have any good tips for ascending that curve faster? I see Muenchen and…"

Wolfgang Viechtbauer replied to Justin C. Brown's discussion Meta-Analysis with R in the group Software for Meta-Analysis
"Thanks for the plug. The package now has its own website and a paper describing how to use the package has been published at the Journal of Statistical Software:   Viechtbauer, W. (2010). Conducting meta-analyses in R with the metafor package.…"

Justin C. Brown replied to Blair T. Johnson's discussion Multilevel analysis strategies for analyzing meta-analytic data in the group Meta-Analytic Analyses
"Blair, this is a great write up. If Hox can do this analysis in SAS PROC Mixed, we should be able to evoke this in Stata via gllamm, as it is a pretty flexible procedure. As for R, the package lmer may be the best solution. I know R has another…"
